Davidson Pattern
No: 2 Salad Servers Known Cloud
Colours: Blue Size(s): 9",
8" Date
Range:
1923 to 1940 Description: Davidson introduced their
glass salad servers in 1923 - the first English glass company to do so. They
were made in Flint and Amber Glass. Until this pair appeared on Ebay it was
assumed that these were not made in Cloud colours. The fact they this blue
pair exists suggests that they may have also been made in Purple Cloud and
possibly Amber Cloud. We know from the 1930s production records that these
salad servers were not made in Cloud glass during that time. |

Colours: Amber Size(s): 3"
square Date
Range: 1943 Description: Davidson
produced a number of ink wells, but this in the only one recorded in Cloud
Glass. Surprisingly it was made in Amber Cloud only in January 1943 when about

of all but essential undecorated glassware it must have been for a government
or similar contract. |

Pattern No: Unknown Known Cloud
Colours: Amber Size(s): 3.5 inches
diameter by 2.5 inches high Date
Range:
1922(?) to 1931(?) Description: This small pot,
which is missing it's lid, is most probably a Davidson piece. The Amber
Cloud colouring compares well with other pieces of Davidson. The style of
the moulding is very similar to other Davidson domestic pieces e.g. 696
bowls, 247 grape fruit dishes etc. |
Davidson
Pattern No: Unknown Known Cloud
Colours: Amber Size(s): 3.5 inches
diameter by 2.5 inches high Date
Range:
1922(?) to 1931(?) Description: Like the pot
above, this is also missing it's lid. It is not certain whether this was made
by Davidson. |
Davidson
Pattern No: Unknown Known Cloud
Colours: Amber Size(s): 4.5 inches
long by 2.5 inches high Date
Range:
1922(?) to 1931(?) Description: This is a most
unusual example of Amber Cloud Glass. These Lion figures have been attributed
to Greener & Co (The Identification of English Pressed Glass, Jenny Thompson)
and originally date from the 1880s. The amber of this lion is much paler than
is normally found in Davidson pieces. As Greener & Co became Joblings, it is
possible that this Lion is a Jobling piece. Why this Lion was made in
Cloud Glass is not clear. The size and shape of the piece make it very
difficult to tell it is Cloud Glass and not plain Amber. Why this style was
remade in the 1930s is also an interesting question. These lions have started
to appear in a variety of colours at antique fairs recently. This may indicate
that they are modern reproductions. |
Davidson
Pattern No: Unknown Known Cloud
Colours: Amber Size(s): 5"
diameter by 3" high Date
Range: Unknown Description: This
is a mystery piece, and we are uncertain as to its origin. The moulding on this
piece is very poor as can be seen from the left hand handle in the picture.
This may have been produced when Davidson started to re-introduce old designs
in the mid 1960s. We are, however, not convinced that it is a Davidson piece. |
