Davidson Three Piece Flower Sets

A three piece flower set came with bowl, flower dome and plinth. Normally all 3 parts would be in the same colour. As has been stated elsewhere, sizes given in Davidson catalogues are fluid.

Davidson Pattern No:   20
Known Cloud Colours:  Amber, Blue, Purple, Green, Orange, Topaz-Briar
Size(s):  10" diameter
Date Range:  1922 - early 1960s
Description:  The first production trial for this bowl was on the 28th April 1922. The bowl was still being made in the early 1960s. The inside of the bowl is flat with no recess for the flower dome to sit, which does not make it very useful for flowers! Some later versions have 4 raised lugs in the bowl to hold the flower dome in position. 

The base of the No 20 bowl is flat with a shallow foot rim. The number 20 Flower Set came with a No 2 matching plinth and 4.5" flower dome.

Davidson Pattern No:   21

Date Range:  1922 - early 1960s
Description:  This bowl is similar in shape to the No 20, but has a large foot and a recess in the centre of the bowl to hold the flower dome. The rim is sometimes knurled. A number 21 Flower Set came with a No 1 plinth and a 4" flower dome.

The number of No 21 bowls made is nearly three times as much as the No 20.

Davidson Pattern No:   24, 24 M

Date Range:   1932 (?) to 1957 (?)
Description: The 24 and 24M were a departure from the normal circular flower set. These were hexagonal in shape and came with a matching plinth with decorative corners.  The 11" No 24 set came with a 4.5" flower dome and the smaller 24 M set came with a 3.5" flower dome.

Date Range:   1932 (?) to 1938
Description: This flower set is an octagonal version of the No 24 flower set. Unlike the No 24 it had only a short life, the last bowl being made in 1938. The bowl was sold with a matching No 25 plinth and a 4.5" flower dome.

Description: This is a miniature version of the 699F flower set. The flower set came with a 2.5" flower dome and a 248 plinth
Davidson Pattern No:  248 D
Known Cloud Colours: Amber, Blue, Purple, Green, Orange
Size(s):   5.5" Diameter
Date Range:   1932 (?) to 1940
Description: This is the D version of the 248 flower set. Like the 248F it came with a 2.5" dome flower block and a 248 Plinth.
Davidson Pattern No:  320

Description: The 320 and 321 flower sets were only made for a very short time. They were made in plain colours and Amber Cloud Glass. It is surprising that they did not make these sets in Green Cloud Glass as well. The 320 flower set came with a matching 320 plinth and a 3.5" flower dome.
Davidson Pattern No:  321

Date Range:   1936 to 1940
Description: This is an oblong version of the 320 flower set. It comes with a matching plinth and a No 5H 8" oval flower dome.

Davidson Pattern No:   S/696 C, 696 C, 699 C

Date Range:   1925 (?) to 1940
Description:  The 696 and 699 series  were the largest three piece flower sets that Davidson made. The first reference to these flower sets appears in a 'Buyers Notes' article in the November 1925 edition of the 'Pottery Gazette and Glass Trades review'. They were therefore probably introduced that year. The S/696 C variant was not made until 1937 and was only in production for one year (in Amber and Green Cloud Glass only). The  699 C also does not appear to have been made in Orange Cloud Glass.

The 696 and 699 sets both came with a No 2 plinth. The S/696 a No 1 Plinth. The S/696, 696 and 699 came with 4", 5" and 5.5" flower domes respectively.

Date Range:   1925 (?) to 1940 (S/696 D to 1960 (?))
Description: The D variant in this range has a turned over rim and was the only one to have be produced in Red Cloud Glass. The S696 D was still in production after the war. and was also made in Topaz-Briar Cloud Glass. Plinth and flower domes sizes are the same as the 'C' variant.
Davidson Pattern No:   S696 F, 696 F, 699 F

Size(s):   9" (S696), 11" (696), 13" (699) Diameter
Date Range:   1925 (?) to 1940
Description: This variant is very similar to the 'C' variety, but with a slight flair to the edge of the bowl. Plinth and flower domes sizes are the same as the 'C' variant. 
Davidson Pattern No:  1907 T
Known Cloud Colours:  Amber, Blue, Purple, Green, Orange, Topaz-Briar
Size(s):  4" Diameter
Date Range:   1907 to 1960 (?)
Description: This design was registered by Davidson in September 1906 (486298) and was in production for over 50 years. It was made in the full range of Cloud colours with the exception of red. The bowl has a band of diamond shaped decoration which imitates cut glass. The 1907 T flower set came with a 2" flower dome and a matching No 3 plinth.
Davidson Pattern No:  1907 TD

Date Range:   1907 to 1960 (?)
Description: The TD variant of the 1907 style has a turned over rim is slightly larger than the 1907 T. It came with a 2.5" No 8 semi-dome flower block and a No 3 plinth.
