Before the Second
World War Davidson produced 7
Trinket Sets, of these 5 were made in Cloud Glass Colours.
These were pattern Numbers 326, 330, 360, 6283/s, 283/4 and 8283. The last three were
all based around the 283 pattern of glassware. Indeed the only difference between the
6283/s and 283/4 Trinket Sets was the size of candlestick. All three of the 283 pattern shared the same style in Powder Jars and Pin Trays.
Of the 5 trinket sets produced, only the 8283 was produced
in Red ORA and Orange Cloud Glass styles. After the Second World War, Davidson does not appear to have sold any
Trinket Sets in Cloud Glass colours. Davidson did
sell a Trinket Set in the 283 pattern, No 5823. This was a five piece set, but
was not made in Cloud Glass.
Davidson sold the individual items that made up the Trinket Set separately. The
pin trays were sold as pin trays, ashtrays and butter pats. The trays were sold
for use as a drinks tray or card tray. It is rare to find a complete set. Often
all that remains is either the candlesticks or the Powder Jars.

Range: 1925? to 1935 Description: This

catalogues. The set consisted of a tray, pair of

The set is very similar to the 326, only the powder jars being

No: 326 Known Cloud
Colours: Amber, Green, Purple and Blue Size(s): See Text Date
Range:
1931 to 1942 Description: This trinket set does
not have the hard geometric lines so popular in the Art Deco period. The
oval shape and curved lines suggest a design from much earlier in the 19th
century.
The 326 Trinket set consisted of 8 pieces:
Oval tray 12 by 8 inches
Two short 2.25 inch candlesticks
Two 4 inch oval pin trays
One 5 inch diameter powder jar
Two 3.5 inch diameter powder jar The set was probably introduced around 1931.

No: 330 Known Cloud
Colours: Amber, Green Size(s): See Text Date
Range:
1934 to 1942 Description: Of all the designs
produced by the Davidson company this probably is the truest to the spirit
of Art Deco. The tray and powder jars have a very strong geometric
"cross" design. The pin trays and candlesticks are also very
angular.
The 330 set consisted of 8 pieces:
Oval tray 13 by 8 inches
Two short 3.5 inch high candlesticks
Two 3 inch
pin trays
One 5 inch diameter powder jar
Two 3.5 inch diameter powder jars The set was
first made in 1934. Davidson also produced this set with a slightly
different shape candlestick. In this version the top of the candlestick is
round without the "cross" decoration.

No: 360 Known Cloud
Colours: Amber Size(s): See Text Date
Range:
1938 to 1941 Description: This set is unusual as
it comes with a perfume spray which would have made it an expensive item.
It is very rare to find the scent spray. The example in the picture right
is missing the elegant "puffer" for the spray. The set is also
the smallest in terms of size
The 360 set consisted of 7 pieces:
Rectangular tray 11.75 by 7.25 inches
Two short 1.5 inch high candlesticks
One 3 inch
pin tray
One 5 inch diameter powder jar
One 3.5 inch diameter powder jar
One 2.5 inch
diameter scent spray The set was also available as a 5 piece set without the pin tray and small
powder jar. This trinket set was first made in 1938 and was only made in
Amber Cloud and some plain flint colours. Production ceased in 1941 and
was not resumed after the war.

Colours: Amber, Green, Purple and Blue Size(s): See Text Date
Range:
1922 to 1936 Description: This is one of three
Trinket Sets Davidson produced based on the 283 pattern of
glassware. The 283 range of glassware had been around since 1912.
The set consisted of 6 pieces:
No 4 Oval tray 13 by 8 inches
Two short 2.5 inch high candlesticks
One 3 inch pin trays
Two 4 inch diameter powder jars Production of the number 4 Tray ceased

the number 4 tray were made after about 1930.

No: 283/4 Known Cloud
Colours: Amber, Green, Purple and Blue Size(s): See Text Date
Range:
1922 to 1936 Description: The 283/4 set is a
variation on the 6283 Trinket Set. The set comes in 7 pieces with tall candlesticks.
The
283/4 set consists of:
No 4 Oval tray 13 by 8 inches
Two tall 7.5 inch high candlesticks
One 3 inch pin tray or ring stand
One 4 inch diameter powder jar
Two 3 inch diameter powder jars
This set was probably introduced in the early 1920s. The candlesticks first appear in the 1912 Catalogue.
In the 1928 and 1935 catalogue, this set is shown with a ring stand,
however, production of the ring stand in Cloud Glass ceased in 1933. The
ring stand only appears to have been made in Amber and possibly Purple
Cloud as well as plain colours. Production of the number 4 Tray ceased
in 1936. It was manufactured again in flint and coloured glass after the
War as part of the 5 piece 5283 Trinket Set. No Purple Cloud examples of
the number 4 tray were made after about 1930.

No: 8283 Known Cloud
Colours: Amber, Green, Purple, Blue, Orange, Red Size(s): See Text Date
Range:
1922 to 1942 Description: Of all of the Trinket
Sets made, this one appears to have been the most popular. Again it is
based on the 283 range of glassware. What makes this set outstanding is
the Trinket Tray. The tray normally comes with an impressed design which
Davidson boasted:
".. it is a triumph of the Glass-maker's Art. Being in the
intaglio style mechanically produced, it retains the spirit of the old
intaglio work"
The
eight piece set consisted off:
No 5 (with intaglio decoration) or 5P (Plain) Oval tray 15 by 8 inches
Two short 2.5 inch high candlesticks
Two 3 inch pin trays
One 5 inch diameter powder jar
Two 3 inch diameter powder jars
This set was produced from the early 1920s and possibly before. Most examples
found today have the impressed design on the trinket tray. Production
of the plain No 5P tray in Cloud Glass ceased in 1935. It appears to have
only been made in Amber and Orange Cloud Glass, although it may have been
made in Blue and Purple Cloud Glass prior to 1931. It is rare to
find a 5P Trinket Tray in Cloud Glass. For an example, see the Orange Cloud
Glass set on this site.
