Glass Web Site As
mentioned in the last email, I have created the page on Davidson Flower
Supports. We also have the first advert on the Dealer page. If you are a
dealer then don’t forget you can advertise on the Cloud Glass web site
without charge. Just email your details and I will include them on the page.
Also we have the wanted/for sale page. Again free of charge. Antique
Fairs Sadly
I must report I have not been able to visit a single Antique fair since the
last newsletter – no glass fair, no Swinderby, no Newark. Hopefully I have
not been missing any bargains!!! Ebay
Cloud Glass One
thing I have meaning to do for a long time, is too keep track of the Cloud
Glass that goes through Ebay. Ebay Cloud Glass comes from all over the world
and has both the common items and the rarities. Like many of us I have bought
and sold items on Ebay and consider it to be a very important source of both
information and ‘buying’ opportunities. I therefore plan to include a list
of Cloud Glass which has gone through Ebay in each future newsletter. The list
for November is given in the table below. Please note the following: i)
I have not included items which did not sell ii)
Auction prices are given in the currency in which the auction
operated – in most cases US
dollars

Reports
From the Pottery Gazette I
thought for this newsletter I would include two reports from different times.
The 1934 report in the last newsletter was quite extensive. In other years
Davidson did not get a mention or only a few lines. For example in 1948
Davidson exhibited at the British Industries Fair for the first time since the
war. Only a short paragraph was devoted to the stand: ‘They
will show a selected range from their well known Davidson and
‘Chippendale’ fancy and domestic glassware, embracing fruit sets, sundaes,
grape fruit glasses, bowls, dishes, celery trays, ice plates, salvers, sweets,
condiment and water sets in flint, also their celebrated “Dome” flower
blocks, flower bowls, vases and ashtrays in colours amber and emerald. Further
and interesting lines recently re-introduced after their withdrawal from
production during war-time conditions’ A
photograph of their stand in the Gazette shows the ‘Ripple’ range in what
appears to be ‘smoke’ or possible plain green or Amber. In 1958, the
British Industries Fair was no more and the Gifts and Fancy Goods Fair at
Blackpool had taken over as the main showcase for British Pottery and Glass.
Although there is no write up of Davidson’s wares, the company did advertise
in the Gazette quite heavily that year. They had no less than 5 different
adverts. These were for: i)
No 508 Bowl and Vase (A black bowl with a flint glass centre
piece) + TD504 Cake Plate ii)
No 510 vase iii)
No 504 Fruit Set iv)
‘Baronet’ Crystal range v)
No 514 small posy sets in matt pastel colours (This is similar
to the Sowerby posy set often seen in Purple Cloud). In
both years there is no evidence of any Cloud Glass. We know that they were
still making Amber after the war and that Topaz-Briar was introduced in 1957.
Davidson appears to have regarded Cloud Glass as a secondary line to both the
‘Ripple’ glass in 1948 and the new fruit sets etc in 1958. And
Finally This
will be the last newsletter this year. I hope to bring you the next one early
in the New Year. Have a very happy Xmas and a prosperous New Year. Best
Wishes Chris
& Val Please
